    Topic: Cooking

    Add (verb): to put something in
    Example: Add Lizano sauce to the Pinto before serving it.

    Bake (verb): to cook in an oven
    Example: Bake for 30 minutes and cool.

    Beat (verb): to mix with a fork, a beater.
    Example: To make scrambled eggs, beat the eggs before cooking them.

    Burn (verb): To cook something for too long or at high temperature.
    Example: Oh, sorry, I burn the toast.

    Chop (verb): to cut into small pieces.
    Example: It's easy to cut yourself when chopping onions.

    Cookbook (noun): a book of recipes.

    Example: I love my cookbook with all the Asian recipes.


    Dish (noun): food that's cooked in a certain way.
    Example: My favorite Costa Rican dish is rice and beans.


    Fry (verb): to cook food in hot oil, butter or fat.
    Example: I like to fry green tomatoes.

    Grease (verb): to rub butter or oil onto a baking pan or dish to avoid food from sticking.
    Example: Should I grease the cake pan with butter or oil?

    Grill (verb): to cook directly over or under a very hot gas flame or electric element.
    Example: I like to grill potatoes and corn.

    Herb (noun): a plant used for adding flavor to food.
    Example: Good cooks always know which herbs to use.

    Ingredient (noun): any food, liquid, herb or spice that's used to make a particular dish.
    Example: To cook lasagna you need many ingredients

    Mash (verb): to crush food until it's a smooth mass.
    Example: Could you mash the potatoes, please?

    Mix (verb): to combine two or more substances.
    Example: The flour is mixed with a little oil and warm water to make a dough.
    Pinch (noun): a very small amount of something like salt or ground spice.
    Example: Add a pinch of salt to the water before boiling vegetables.

    Preheat (verb): to turn on and heat an oven or grill before cooking.
    Example: It's important to preheat your oven before baking cake.

    Recipe (noun): a list of ingredients and instructions for cooking a particular dish.
    Example: My grandmother has the best homemade bread recipe

    Roast (verb): to cook foods like meat and vegetables in an oven.
    Example: Roast chicken is better than fried chicken.

    Spice (noun): a plant part, often ground into a powder, that adds flavor to a dish.

    Toxicity: an object or person that is dangerous
    Example: Chernobyl is a place with a lot of toxicity.

    Example: I visited the city yesterday

    Topic: Agriculture at home

    Fertilizer (noun): It is a kinf of substances used to provide minerals and nutrients to the plants.
    Example: I use some shells as a natural fertilizer.

    Harvest (verb): Is the action to get the fruits or vegetables of plants.
    Example: Today I harvested some tomatoes.

    Irrigate (verb): The action to provide water to the plantation.
    Example: I irrigate my plants in the morning.

    Plague (noun): Some insects or animals that damage plants.
    Example: The snail become plagues.

    Plant (verb): The action to putt the seed into the ground.
    Example: I plant tomatoes in my backyard.

    Plantation (noun): When you plant a lot of the same seed and you get a lot of plants.
    Example: In Limon we can find a lot of plantation of bananas.

    Plague (noun): Some insects or animals that damage plants.
    Example: The snail become plagues.

    Pot (noun): A kind of container.
    Example: I put the seeds of cilantro in a pot.

    Prune (verb): Is similar to cut, you do this to the plants for maintenance.
    Example: Coffee is pruned once a year.

    Prunning shears (noun): It is similar to scissors but it only use to prune plants.
    Example: I use the prunning shears to cut some branches of an old tree.

    Seed (noun): A little grain that find in some fruits or vegetables.
    Example: The avocado’s seeds are too big.

    Soil ground (noun): It is earth’s surface, it is brown color.
    Example: I buy some soil ground in a farmer.

    Shovel (noun): Is a thing that we used to move the ground.
    Example: I use the shovel to make a hole in the ground.

    Rake (noun): It is a instrument used to move and clean the ground. Example: I use the rake to collect all the fallen leaves from trees in the backyard.

    Watering can (noun): A thing that we use to irrigate the plants. Example: My watering can is the color red.

    Computer Terms.
    1-Application (noun): A program that you download in a device for a specific purpose, such as graphic design, a game, a calendar, email, etc.
    Example: WhatsApp is the most often-used application

    2-Attachment (noun): It is a computer file that is sent together with an email message.
    Example: I wasn't able to open that attachment

    3-Backup (noun): It means making a copy of data and files to protect them against accidental loss.
    Example: It’s always a good idea to back up your computer regularly.

    4-Bluetooth (noun): Bluetooth is a wireless communications technology to replace cables and allows people exchange information, photos, music etc. or to connect different devices with each other.
    Example: I´ve connected the keyboard to the laptop via Bluetooth.

    5-Chat (verb): Communication between two or more users, where people write message in real-time via internet using an internet site, application like Telegram or WhatsApp.
    Example: I wrote you in the group chat.

    6-CPU (noun): Are the initials of “Central Processing Unit” and is the brains behind your computer. The CPU is responsible for performing calculations and tasks that make programs work. People called “CPU” to the metal box of the computer where the monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer and other devices are connected.
    Example: My CPU doesn´t turn on.
    7-Download (verb): The process of transferring files like a photos, music, documents or information from a remote computer to your device. The opposite action is upload.

    Example: I need to download the photos of my business trip to my computer for today’s presentation.

    8-Email (noun): It is a way of sending message or electronic mail between computers, or devices over the internet.
    Example: I will send you the homework via email.

    9-Emoticon (noun): A combination of keyboard characters to represent a facial expression or emotion when you send an email or message. Examples: the characters :-) for a smiley face or ;-) for a wink.
    Example: I like to send a lot of emoticons when I use WhatsApp

    10-Flash drive (noun): A small electronic device that you can connect into a port of some device like a computer, tablets, music speakers and it use as a portable hard drive to copy and store information.
    Example: I save my homework on a flash drive

    11-Hard disk (noun): It is a physical place where a computer stores information, it is inside of the computer, a storage device when you put a lot of data.
    Example: I changed the hard drive of my laptop for one of more capacity

    12-Hardware (noun): The physical components of a computer including the keyboard, monitor, disk drive, and internal chips, memory, etc.
    Example: My computer has a hardware problem

    13-Install (verb): Make a computer or application ready for use. Put an application or program in a computer.

    Example: On my first day of work, my supervisor sent the technical support team to install a new computer for me.

    14-Monitor (noun): It is a screen that you connect to a computer to project what is on the computer and show images and video. There are a sizes and resolutions.
    Example: I need a bigger monitor for my computer

    15-Mouse (noun): It is a small device connected to the computer, and it moves a cursor across the screen to control the computer by clicking the mouse, there are wired and wireless mice
    Example: I prefer the wireless mouse because it is more comfortable / you can copy the file with a click of the mouse

    1. 16-Online (adjective): It is when a device or computer are connected to the Internet, or when a person is connected to the internet and is available to be contacted at that time, It also is used to refer to a device like a printer that is ready to accept commands from a computer.
      Example: I'm going to send a message to my friend because she is online

      17-Password (noun): It is a secret key that can combine numbers, letters, and / or characters that is placed in devices or programs so that no one enters that device or program, only the person who knows the key can enter.
      Example: Each user has a password in order to log onto the computer
      .
      18-Software (noun): Any program or application that control what a computer or electronic device does
      Example: This software helps me edit PDFs.

      19-Spam (noun): It is information that you do not request for marketing purposes, which usually goes into the mail.
      Example: My mail inbox is full of spam

      20-Virus (noun): It is a part of a computer program that attack other programs in your computer to cause damage or may erase data. Viruses can be sent in many forms but are often transmitted via email messages that, when opened, may erase data or cause damage to your hard disk.
      Example. If you think there may be a virus, don't open the attachment.

    Topic: Environment

    Global warming(noun): Abnormal increase in the earth's temperature.
    Example: Heat wave in Canada reached 49 degrees Celsius due to global warming.

    Climate change(noun): Human forced change in the environmental conditions of a place.
    Example: Cartago ceased to be the city of mists due to warming in the area.

    Ozone layer(noun): It is located in the atmosphere and is responsible for protecting us from the sun's rays.
    Example: The biggest hole in the ozone layer is located at the South Pole.

    Contamination(noun): this happens when a place is no longer suitable for normal life due to external agents that damage it.
    Example: Oil accidents contaminate the ocean.

    Deforestation(noun): devastation of forests, killing trees and vegetation.
    Example: This year more than 3600 square kilometers have been cut in the Amazon, that is 4 times bigger than New York.

    Environmental crime(noun): when what we do damages the environment.
    Example: When garbage is dumped in the sea.

    Biodiversity(noun): set of living beings that make up an environment.
    Example: A lake containing different species of fish and plants.

    Aquifer(noun): place where water of excellent qualities is found.
    Example: In Costa Rica, aquifers are administered by Las Asadas.

    Sustainable development(noun): what we do now in the present does not harm others in the future.
    Example: Companies certified to ISO standards.

    Greenhouse effect(noun): happens when the earth's surface absorbs heat and gases prevent it from escaping back into space.
    Example: Forest fires are caused by the greenhouse effect.

    Carbon dioxide(noun): gas that prevents heat from escaping into space.
    Example: Carbon dioxide is the main cause of the greenhouse effect.

    Erosion(noun): deterioration of the earth caused by a lot of rain or wind.
    Example: landslides are caused by erosion.

    Recycling(noun): is the reutilization of materials that could contaminate the environment.
    Example: reusing plastic or glass bottles.

    Natural resources(noun): are the elements that help life to develop.
    Example: Water is a natural resource.

    Residues(noun): they usually appear at the end of any activity and if they are not well treated they can contaminate.
    Example: Trash left on beaches.
